I loved this book! It was so good and thoughtful. It really showed Lionpaw's emotion. I was up until the early hours reading. I couldn't stop it. Some parts could intimidate younger readers, but I recommend it to ages 8-14. I thought that Firestar would listen to The Three more. He had the prophecy! And the common sense! Everyone was always sympathetic to Jaypaw. No one really cares about Longtail now that they have a new blind cat. I loved Heatherpaw and Lionpaw's relationship. I really thought they would pull a Leafpool and Crowfeather scene. I wonder why they didn't.

"Outcast" tackles some very complex themes in a deceptively simple format religion, the "spreading" of our preferred political systems to other cultures, whether it's okay for our leaders to lie to us in order to motivate or protect us, the fallibility of leaders in general. These are fairly sophisticated questions to be presented in juvenile fiction, and they are handled fairly gracefully, without the authors' own views being preached or even revealed in any blatant way. The book thus provided an opportunity for me to begin exploring these issues with my eight-year-old son without overwhelming him or inculcating him in any particular philosophy (other than my own).

The book also deftly develops the characters of the three protagonists and answers some questions while raising others. However, the book is not without significant flaws.

The actual prose is dreadful. The authors never met a simile they didn't like or as.

And to say that their style is repetitive is, at best, an understatement. If I never again read the phrase "from ears to tail tip," it will be too soon. Perhaps worst of all, the authors begin in this installment to betray their own best talents. Both of the previous series displayed a fine ear for plot pacing and story-telling. This book handles the short arc well. The story of the cats' adventure in the mountains is well-told and character-driven. Unfortunately, the authors' treatment of the series' long arc begins noticeably to fall apart.

Anvils are dropping everywhere regarding who the kits are. The plot points are so conspicuous that I keep hearing soap opera organ music in my head as each one pops into view and waves. In fact, the authors seem to be borrowing quite deliberately from the worst cliches of soap opera in order to keep us interested in this series needless exposition from one chapter to the next (it's fine to recap what happened in other books, but we're already reading this one - don't recap what happened in the chapter we just read), parentage questions, mustache-twirling villains, forgotten history and character relationships....

This is probably good if you've got a reluctant reader. It helps to keep the pages turning and builds interest in the next book. However, if your child already enjoys reading, you might want to direct his or her time and attention into books that will enrich his or her language skills (at least after this book, which, as noted, does have its thematic plusses).

I really hoped in this book,Lionpaw and Heatherpaw would end up like Crowfeather and Leafpool , determined to fight for their love . It seems that Lionpaw have a dark future in front of him when he could chose another.
This book is really heartwarming and thrilling and i hoped that the Hunters would make a super edition of Heatherpaw .
I enjoyed reading this series because it really sparked my interest of how they were to help settle the problems for the mountain cats without getting killed themselves. A very interesting ending I deed.
As all my review's say this book is a great book for kids from 8-11 in my opinion. It's full of action adventure excitement battle and boundaries, oh and trust me they are so interesting you will have kids asking to stay up longer reading I read 1 hour a night most of the time! !******************************SPOIL****************************ALERT**********************************! jaypaw , hollypaw, and lionpaw wanted to travel to the mountains where the tribe of the rushing water lives. but then brook stormfur 's mate is visited by her tribe mates and they are beginning her to come back to the tribe and help fix a big problem! so firestar sends a patrol out to help. he picks all three of them and many more cats. New cats move in and take all of the tribe's land for hunting. they tried fighting but they always loss the battle. with the help of ancient cats they are able to fight and and help the tribe
I love the warrior series I am almost done with the last book of power of three I have read all the ones behind it I think warriors is the all time forever best series and when people say it is just a bunch of fighting cats I get so mad I think warriors is heart felt because when they lost feather tail I cried I tugged on me but me favorite character is Jay paw / Jay feather I love the blind medicine cat how has more power than star clan and his sister holly paw / holly leaf and his brother lion paw / lion blaze they also have more power I love when he fell in love because it was a forbidden love like Romeo and Juliet but she was a cat that was alive before star clan any way I love this book and all others of this series some of this stuff doesn't happen in this one book but I making if where you want to read others well I might have been a spoil alert on feather tail but you need to be prepared for it I was no and I had a melt down
My daughter who is 11 is HOOKED on this series. I cannot believe how fast she is a making it through all these books. I can't complain about spending the money especially when she is reading!! Thank You so much for writing a series to get kids interested in reading!! She will stay up way past her bedtime reading. It's hard to argue with her when she says just one more chapter.....
