#3 in the Balanced Sword epic fantasy series, and series finale. Phoenix and her companions take on the King of All Hells in a final showdown with the fate of multiple worlds in the balance.
The King of All Hells Awaits
Kyri, Tobimar, and Poplock had managed—barely—to thwart the plans of the mad alchemist-mage Master Wieran, and defeat the monstrous Elderwyrm Sanamaveridion, saving the secret country of Kaizatenzei from the evil hidden at its core. Now they believe they have discovered the true architect of not just the fall of the Justiciars of Myrionar—god of Justice and Vengeance—but the unleashing of the forces of the Hells themselves against the other countries of Zarathan. They begin their journey back to Kyri's home, Evanwyl, to confront the being their new ally Miri calls Viedraverion, first son of the King of All Hells.
But behind that name lies an even more terrible secret, and a plan centuries in the making, a plan that depends on Kyri being who and what she is. Even if the three adventurers can escape the spies and traps within their own adventuring party, their final adversary awaits them eagerly. For with them they carry the key to their enemy's victory—a victory which will destroy not only Kyri, her friends, and her country, but also the gods themselves!
Yet Kyri and her allies have a hidden strength themselves. They are fighting for the right, and there are ancient gods and powers who may come to the aid of a true warrior's heart in the time of greatest need.

Phoenix Ascendant Balanced Sword Series Book 3 eBook Ryk E Spoor
Oh, what to say. This series slowly, epically, ramps up in power. This is an RPG ala anime, but in a good way. The characters grow, both in power and in character, and the villain of the piece... what can you say about a demonlord millions of years old, who is weaving even deeper schemes than his allies realize? This brings the series to a very satisfying conclusion, in my mind, and while I would love to see the ongoing adventures of Popluck Duckweed and friends, I don't feel cheated by the ending of this at all. I hope one day to see more of this world, the Spirit Warriors, and Konstantin Khoros!Product details

Phoenix Ascendant Balanced Sword Series Book 3 eBook Ryk E Spoor Reviews
A good book with an interesting twist at the end. Overall the series was good. I really did like the way the "Big Baddy" was written.
What a great final book of the trilogy!! Some serious surprises in it; Ryk E. Spoor has done an excellent job with this fantasy series!! I really look forward to he writes next!!
Totally convoluted plot (That's a GOOD thing.). Very well defined, intensely interesting characters that I will remember for a long, long time. This is a fantasy of Justice and Mercy against pure Evil that is full of surprises. Thanks, Ryk!
Nice wrap up to the trilogy and the usual Spoor epic battles. Not Tolkien but enjoyable characters, an interesting universe and well written with (at least for me), no jarring notes. I look forward to seeing more books in this universe as there seem to be some stories still to be told.
This is the third and last book in the Phoenix trilogy, and wraps up all the plot lines into a very satisfying conclusion! Thanks to Ryk Spoor for showing us that the fantasy genre is alive and well! Hoping for more fantasy from Ryk!
A solid conclusion to the Balanced Sword trilogy - well written, engaging, and satisfying.
Despite its genesis in Ryk's role-playing background and the "quest" story arc, this book - the whole trilogy - is about as un-formulaic as it gets.
And he played fair with the mystery elements - if you pay attention is was possible to deduce who the main adversary *really* is (a bit easier if you've read some of his Jason Wood stories), but the story climax *still* took me by surprise. And on re-reading the trilogy from the beginning I saw many more clues I'd overlooked the first time through - quite a few pieces of minor atmosphere/background turned out to function both in the short term and as hints to the details of the final reveal.
If you're at all fond of heroic fantasy - and why are you reading this review if you're not? - buy it. Let's get the readership numbers high enough to encourage Ryk to show us more of Zarathan.
This apparently concludes his “Balanced Sword” trilogy (following Phoenix Rising (2012) and Phoenix in Shadow (2015)). At the end of the second book Phoenix (Kyri) and her allies had defeated an ancient dragon who was trying to destroy the realm of Kaizatenzei, and an evil mage who had subjugated many of the realm’s Guard, sealing their real bodies away in his laboratory and using them to activate simulacra who were enslaved to his bidding. This one opens with Kyri and her allies trying to free the imprisoned guards and get them to safety before a series of earthquakes set off by the dragon’s death can bury them in the ruins of the laboratory. To her surprise, one of them appears to be her brother Rion, whom she thought she had seen murdered and his soul shredded before her eyes before the beginning of the first book. Yet this person not only looks just like Rion; he has memories they share that no one else should have known. There are lots of adventures, and the conclusion of the book ties up most of the loose ends of the trilogy; certainly there is room for other books in this same setting, but I don’t see any real need for any.
